About the company
Our client is a fintech on a mission to completely revolutionize the way consumer finance works in New Zealand. The old process has always been hidden behind closed doors, the experience has felt cold, and customers have been left feeling like all they can do is cross their fingers and hope they are getting a fair deal.
This company is changing that.
They’re right in the middle of a major transition from that classic “phone first” business to a completely self service digital platform and there is a lot of exciting ground to cover.
Think empowering customers to make genuine, qualified financial decisions, in an experience that ironically should not feel like your everyday finance product.
About the role
We are seeking a Product UX Designer (But you can BYO your own title if you think you have something better!). This is a true end to end role. You won’t just be pushing pixels in Figma (Although, there will be a fair bit of that). Instead, you’ll be the person figuring out the “why” before the “what”.
That means thinking about the full customer journey, from the first touchpoint to the final approval. Processes that happen offline could be just as important as what happens inside the app.
There’s plenty of big design work ahead. Creating that self service portal that has a world class experience on mobile for one. But equally important is the strategic thinking. Understanding how to get the required information from a customer without them feeling like they are drowning in forms. Where is the friction where users are dropping off the most? What does a nurture journey actually look like when you remove all the smoke and mirrors of finance?
You’ll be reporting directly to the Head of Technology and be the sole designer on a tight knit team. Decisions get made daily here, there’s no red tape, no waiting weeks for sign off. If you have an idea to make that button red and increase conversions by 5%, then you’ll be given the green light and told to make it happen while having your morning coffee.
What you will bring
You’ll be someone who asks the “why” before the “what”. Someone who wants to understand the real problem before designing a solution.
High EQ matters here because you’ll be working with a small team and you’ll be making some big calls with no big design org to cover your mistakes. It’s true ownership, not just something that gets promised in a job ad then quietly disappears on day one.
